Most digital marketing agencies are founded by salespeople who learned enough SEO vocabulary to close contracts. I know this because I've spent 16 years on the other side of that equation — actually doing the work.

I started in SEO in 2009 as a writer, learning how content and search actually interact before the industry turned into a lead generation machine. Over the following 16 years I worked my way through every layer of the discipline — writing, editing, content strategy, technical SEO, local search, and enterprise campaign management — eventually reaching Senior SEO Manager in 2023 and SEO Director in 2025.

At the director level I've simultaneously managed SEO strategy for companies with hundreds of clients across the medspa, dental, and home service verticals. I know what a well-run SEO operation looks like from the inside. I also know what a white-label reseller running junior staff on templates looks like — because I've watched contractors get burned by that model over and over.
